"When I Make A Garden"

Ralph Hancock's book "When I Make A Garden" is a wonderful source of photographs of the gardens he designed and made in the UK and USA. It is also a great source of frustration for anyone researching his work since only a few of the gardens are identified by location.

Ralph built gardens in the UK in the 1920s, 30s and 40s and in the United States in the 1930s. A few are well known - the roof gardens at Derry & Toms in London and the Rockefeller Center in New York, the garden at Twyn-yr-Hydd House in Margam and the rock and water garden he built for Princess Victoria at Coppins, Iver for example.

However, the majority of his gardens remain unknown and unrecognized. Part of the purpose of this blog is to collect details of the gardens that he designed in order to create a comprehensive catalog of his works.

Ralph was a man of many talents - he also built at least one house and may have designed interiors too.

If you have any information regarding a known or possible Ralph Hancock garden or other work please e-mail me at Hancockinfo@gmail.com
